Cherry Ames: Army Nurse
Published in Hardcover by Grosset & Dunlap (January, 1900)
Author: H. Wells
Average review score:

Cherry Ames: Army Nurse
I give this 4 stars taking into consideration when it was written. By that I mean that it is perhaps a snapshot of "nursing" from the time and all the Cherry Ames books should be taken for what they are, a romp, through the eyes of Miss Ames, RN. Don't take them too seriously, just enjoy the ride. Some of the situations seem contrived and silly by current standards, but its a quick light entertaining read and there's nothing else like them that I'm aware of - a young, bright, independent female character moving from one nursing adventure to another enjoying her career and learning about life as she goes. No gratuitous sex or violence. - Fun!

One of the best "Cherry's"...
I started to read Cherry Ames when I bought one from a used bookstore a couple of years ago. I bought Cherry Ames, Army Nurse because of its cover(I know, I know). She looked very excited and happy there, so I had to join her. It was a great continuation of the first two books in the series, and gave a real look of how Army nurses trained back then. From her first time at the base, to training, to a special ending, I wouldn't change a thing about the book. It was good all around.

A snapshot of nursing history
The Cherry Ames books give a glimpse into the history of nursing. Cherry is attractive, smart, savvy, organized and detailed - everything a nurse should seem to be!

EMT-Basic Exam Review

Authors: Paul A. Cousins, Brent Q. Hafen, and Richard A. Cherry
Average review score:

EMT-Basic Exam Review
This is an excellent review book. Overall, it can help you find areas that you may need to review. There are also good explanations of the answers along with page numbers for the Brady's Emergency Care, versions 7&8. I recommend this book for anyone preparing for the EMT-Basic exam.

Must have for EMTB's!
This is an excellent review to help you realize where you stand in regards to the NREMT. (And how much you need to cram)

I bought a few EMT reviews and this by far was my favorite. I highly recommend it.

Recommended
This book is an excellent review guide for the EMT-Basic. Mr. Cherry explains each and every question, and explains rationale. I recommend this book to any EMT taking the course or preparing for a state exam.

The Giant Book of Children's Songs
Published in Paperback by Hal Leonard (March, 1995)
Authors: Cherry Lane Music, Milton Okun, Len Handler, and Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation
Average review score:

Familiar songs, easy to play piano
This book has a great selection of songs. I remember a lot of these songs from my childhood. The accompaniment for most of the songs is easy. My only concern is how difficult it is to keep the book open on a music stand. It's a big book with thick binding.

Great Book!
You know all those songs we grew up with and want to share with our children, but you can't remember the words or music? Well this is the book for you complete with guitar chords and original words! A great collection for any home.

A really fun book.
This book is filled with songs that I remember from childhood but have forgotten all the words to. Now I can sing songs to my daughter instead of just humming the tunes! Our family has had a lot of fun with this book.

Groundwater
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall (08 May, 1979)
Authors: R. Allan Freeze and John A. Cherry
Average review score:

Groundwater
Overall a very good book. This is the text our Hydrogeology professor, Dr.J.Toth used in the 80's. It covers a great deal of information on facies, flow nets, hydrologic cycle, chemical evolution, groundwater resource evaluation, contamination, groundwater processes and a really good section on chemical principles and mass action. This is not a quantitative text, the discussions on finite difference and finite element methods include very little math. I would have also liked to have seen a better discussion of well hydraulics. I still turn to it for a reference as it is a very useful book.

A rigorous and quantitative basic reference
This is a good complement to "Groundwater Hydrology" by Todd. Freeze and Cherry is more detailed, rigorous, and quantitative than Todd, but it doesn't communicate the big picture quite as well. As well as an undergraduate textbook, this book is an essential resource for anyone working in the field.

The "bible" of groundwater
Despite the fact that this book was written almost twenty years ago, it is still considered the definitive work on groundwater geology. A must-have for hydrogeologists and groundwater engineers.

My First Machine Sewing Book: Straight Stitching/Kit, Ages 7 to 11
Published in Paperback by Palmer/Pletsch Publishing (May, 1995)

My First Machine Sewing Book
I bought this book awhile ago and my daughter just used it. She is 11 yrs old and I think that it had a lot of practical excercises. The star she made was very good for her first sewing experience and I did not have to explain every step.

My First Machine Sewing Book
Very Good Book. Purchased for my 9 year old niece. The step by step guide and checklist covered the basics she needed to learn in terms she understood. We completed the kit in one afternoon.

My First Sewing Machine -A Pleasant Surprise!
This book was purchased for my 9 year old granddaughter. She was totally involved as we browsed the pages. The colorful layout and simple explanations encouraged her to continue reading and learning. The practice patterns for "steering" the sewing machine are an excellent idea. The games maintained her interest and encouraged skill-building. The easy-to-make crafts will keep her busy and make wonderful presents for her friends. As a long time sewer and grandmother of eleven I highly recommend My First Sewing Machine Book!

Two Bites of the Cherry and Other Golf Stories
Published in Hardcover by Carmel Publishing Company (10 June, 2000)
Authors: Rag A. March and Ray A. March
Average review score:

Biting the Cherry
I've got to confess up front: I'm a character in this book. And I've been a good friend of the author for the past 13 years, ever since that day he basically barged into my office at Monterey Life magazine, where I had been editor all of three days, and announced "Here's How It's Gonna Be!"

How could I resist befriending a man of such honesty, forthrightness and vision?

So my review of this new book by Ray A. March is tinged with unabashed warmth and respect.

But the truth is, it's a good read! If you're a fan of golf and like the back roads of the world looking for the fun experiences in the game, you'll enjoy reading "Two Bites of the Cherry."

The stories take you golf venturing to Hawaii, France, Scotland, Canada and all over the U.S. They are warm, funny and well written, because March is first and foremost a good writer. The fact that he writes about golf primarily these days is a blessing for the sport, much as it was to have had Herbert Warren Wind writing about golf for the New Yorker.

One of the better reads in the book is called "A Tour of Spanish Bay" which gives us wonderful insight into the designing of The Links at Spanish Bay. The author walks the under-construction course with Tom Watson, Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Sandy Tatum as they discuss their design concepts and possible modifications. Where have you ever had a chance to get this deep into the minds of three of golf's luminaries?

If I have one criticism of the book it is that I had no idea what the title meant until the very last story in the book. I wanted to know sooner.

But that's a finnicky complaint of an overall great golf read. There are not enough books of this nature on golf, as most are concerned with the PGA Tour, etc. March's contribution to golf literature is welcomed and overdue.

Fun Golf Stories!
This is great reading for the whole family! My son particularly liked "Rambo Golf", he could relate! And my husband really liked "The Name of the Game". For me, the best story was "The Greatest Coach Carmel Ever New". For late summer reading, "Two Bites of the Cherry" can't be beat!

Travels with Ray
Fans of Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley" will love Ray March's account of his own journeys across America and elsewhere in pursuit of all things related to golf. And to March, that includes just about everything: weddings, cruises, wine, exercise-- and, of course-- golf. In "Two Bites" March ranges entertainingly across continents, interviews the likes of Michael Murphy and Jack Lemmon, and offers his own amusing and insightful experiences around this game so many love to hate or hate to love. It's the perfect book to carry in your golf bag and break out when you're waiting for the slow foursome of knuckleheads in front of you to find their quartet of lost balls. March is an excellent writer and his book is a fine companion to take along on your next golf trip.

The Mercenary (Harlequin Temptation No 492)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (May, 1994)
Author: Cherry Adair
Average review score:

Adair's Debut Novel!
"The Mercenary" is Adair's debut novel written in 1994 and published as a Harlequin Temptation series romance.

This is the story of T-FLAC operative Marc Savin and his partner's sister Victoria Jones. T-FLAC (Terrorist Force Logistical Assault Command) is an elite government unit, a cloaked counterterrorist force beyond even the CIA.

When Victoria (Tory) realizes that her brother is being held prisoner, she enlists the help of Marc Savin to rescue him. Tory and her brother are twins and they have a special ability to communicate with each other telepathically. For this reason Marc needs Tory to help him locate his partner and he takes her along on the rescue mission.

This story held my interest because of Adair's ability to produce an exciting read when it comes to action, adventure and suspense. But the romance portion of the story was disappointing. There was no indepth character development. Other than their mission together and some background info on their past lives, I feel I didn't get to know Marc and Tory too well. Their relationship followed a stilted and dated format but you will find some steamy sex scenes in this story. Another slight problem in this story was that I found it difficult to believe the mental telepathy conversations between Tory and her brother.

I would have liked a longer, more indepth story, but even with these distractions, I feel that Ms. Adair did a good job with this short format series title. This title is currently out of print and very hard to find at used book stores. Copies are available through amazon.com auctions and zshops.

WOW - Cherry Adair is one of the best authors!!!
I Could not put down Hide and Seek and Kiss and Tell so I fugured it would be worth spending a little extra cash to get this book in an ebay auction. I am so glad that I spent the $9.00. It was so WORTH IT. This story was great. She always leaves you wanting more! I have been hoping that she will continue to write about the other brothers from Hide and Seek and Kiss and Tell - Now I am hoping that one day she will come back with a story about Tory's brother....

Starts off Great and Gets better from there
I throughly enjoyed Cherry Adair's "The Mercenary". It has enough suspense and spice to really keep your attention and sets the stage for "Kiss and Tell". Can't wait for her next book!!

The Songs of Bob Dylan from 1966 Through 1975
Published in Paperback by Random House Trade Paperbacks (August, 1978)
Authors: Bob Dylan, Cherry Lane, and M. Ckun
Average review score:

too basic
Tons of material and the lyric help is good but if you want to learn how to play these songs well you need another source (if you can't figure them out, which is hard for a beginner to do). The problem is that it just gives the basic chords and doesn't include open tunings - something vital in dylan's work - or how to do anything other than strum the chord over the vocal. It was given to me years ago and now that i include dylan's work in about 25% of my performances i use it as a reference or key checker but now how to play the songs well.

fantastic for the novice
if you're a recreational guitarist and dylan fan this is the absolute best! i have every dylan songbook in print and most of those out of print and this is by far my favorite. it even has chord changes noted on the supplemental lyrics (something i have never seen elsewhere).

written in his soul from he to you
I picked this book up when I was first teaching myself guitar about 8 years ago, and the main reason I was teaching myself guitar is because I wanted to learn how to play my favorite Dylan tunes and get to the heart of the magic of his songwriting. This book covers much of his most glorious material, basically from Blonde on Blonde through Desire. That means you can learn how to play Visions of Johanna, Simple Twist of Fate, Hurricane or any of the Basement Tapes ditties. In addition to having superb material, the book has the most sensible layout of any folio I've ever purchased: a key to all the chords used in the song appears on the top of EVERY page, so when you flip to the end of the verse you don't have to flip back again to remember what an F#m7 looks like; this is obviously beneficial to a new player. By and large the chords seem to be accurate; some songs sound closer to the album than others, and I've read that many Dylan songs were recorded in unorthodox tunings, but if you want to get the gist of "Tangled up in Blue" or "Lay Lady Lay" (which sounds dead-on) you'll be more than happy with the way it's spelled out here. I think this book is around, so if you're willing to hunt through a few well stocked music or book stores you could probably find it. It would be well worth your while

Stablekeeping: A Visual Guide to Safe and Healthy Horsekeeping (Horsekeeping Skills.)
Published in Paperback by Storey Books (January, 2000)
Authors: Cherry Hill and Richard Klimesh
Average review score:

Good beginners guide - the basics
This is a good beginners guide or a good refresher course. Don't look for a lot past the basics, though.

cherry hill does it again
a very good book, with very detailed pictures. would recommmend to any one that has a horse stable, or is thinking of building one.

Little Things are Important
I recently read this book to brush up on my horsekeeping skills...The information helped me to plan our new barn.By reading this book I was able to pick out small things to help me design and lay out my barn and corral areas...It's very helpful to be organized, have a tack room designed to take care of all my expensive tack and have things easily available in case of an injury or emergency.
